Open Source SEO

Open source SEO: hosted app or self-hosted core

Doverity is built on open-seo, an MIT-licensed SEO stack. Use the hosted app and let an agent do the work, or self-host the core free forever.

"Open source" shows up on a lot of SEO tool pages. Most of the time it means a free tier. Sometimes it means a blog post. Here it means a license you can read, a codebase you can run without us, and a bill you can predict.

What open source SEO means when you're buying

Buying SEO software is usually a leap of faith. You connect your Search Console property, you hand over your keyword lists, and you trust a vendor you cannot inspect.

An open source SEO stack shortens that leap. Three things change:

  • You can read it. The code that fetches your rankings and backlink data is in the open. If you want to know how a number was put together, you can go look.
  • You can run it. The license is not a trial. Host it on a machine you control and keep the data there.
  • You can leave. Nothing about your workflow lives only inside a hosted account that someone else can switch off.

A closed tool can promise all three. Open source lets you check.

The honest story: Doverity is built on open-seo

Doverity is not a from-scratch product. It is built on open-seo, an MIT-licensed SEO stack that covers the unglamorous core of the job: keyword research, site audits, backlink profiles, rank tracking, and domain overview.

We would rather tell you that here than have you find it in a git remote. It is also the reason this page exists. If you want to know what Doverity does under the hood, the core is public and you can read it.

What the MIT license gets you

  • Self-host free forever. Clone the core, add your own DataForSEO API key, and run it wherever you like. There is no paid tier hiding under the license.
  • Audit before you connect anything. Auth, data fetching, storage. It is all readable, so you can decide what touches your Search Console property and what does not.
  • Change what does not fit. Fork it, cut what you do not need, and wire the rest into your own internal tools.
  • No lock-in. If the hosted app ever stops being the right fit, the workflows you built keep working on the core.

Where the license ends and the data bill begins

Free code is not the same thing as a free tool. SEO data has to be fetched from somewhere, and providers charge per request. Volume estimates, backlink indexes, rank positions, live results. Every one of them costs money on every call.

That is true for every SEO product, not just this one. What open source changes is the exit. If a cheaper or better data provider appears, the core can switch to it. With a closed tool you wait for the vendor to decide, and you pay whatever they decide to charge.

What the hosted app adds

open-seo is a stack, not a service. The hosted app at app.doverity.com is what turns it into something you can use today without a setup session.

  • An agent does the work with you. Ask for keyword ideas for a page, an audit of a section of your site, or a backlink check. You get the answer and the data behind it, not a dashboard you have to learn first.
  • Your coding agent can drive it. Doverity ships an MCP server and agent skills, so Claude, Codex, or another agent you already use can run SEO workflows where you work. Ask for keyword research, get numbers back, and get a link to the same data in Doverity so you can check them.
  • Your own search data, read-only. Connect Google Search Console and GA4 and Doverity reads what you already own. It does not write to either.
  • AI visibility, tracked. See where your brand appears in AI answers and look at the prompts people use to find you.

Pricing fits in one line: free credits when you sign up, $10/month (₹899/month in India) with $10 of metered usage included, and self-hosting is free forever.

Which path fits you

Hosted, if you want the work done. You would rather spend the afternoon on the page than on a Dockerfile. Sign up, connect Search Console, and go.

Self-hosted, if you want the data close. You already run your own infrastructure, you have a DataForSEO account, or you need to change the tool to match how your team works.

Both, if you want a runway. Go hosted now, move the core in-house when a client or a compliance rule asks for it. Nothing gets rebuilt.

Two ways in

Same stack underneath either one. The buttons below take you to the hosted app or to the core.

Use it hosted, or run the core yourself

The hosted app gets you started in minutes — an agent does the SEO work with you. The MIT-licensed open-seo core is there if you'd rather run things yourself.
